This is the third in a series on how the free will belief that our world’s top thinkers, Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, and Albert Einstein each considered completely mistaken, provides a foundation for conservatism’s discriminatory policies against gays, the poor, criminals, the mentally ill and other disenfranchised groups, and how we progressives can pull that foundation out from under the GOP by exposing the free will myth. For a more detailed presentation of this strategy, read the series’ first post: How to dismantle the GOP by debunking the belief in free will.
We all know how Republicans use the free will myth to unjustly blame and punish the victim. A young boy named Bob grows up in a crime-ridden, very poor, neighborhood, and when he succumbs to the influences around him, and commits a crime, Republicans throw the book at him.
“Johnny lives in that same neighborhood, and didn’t commit a crime, so you can’t blame the neighborhood,” they claim. Of course, what Republicans choose to ignore is that Bob and Johnny have different genes, and different parents, and different levels of intelligence, etc. What these tough-but-stupid-on-crime Republicans will try to tell you is that both Bob and Johnny have a free will.
If you don’t understand why Darwin, Freud and Einstein were right in concluding that free will is a fiction, just watch one of the many videos on YouTube that explain exactly why free will does not exist. Or, for now, watch the short video below.
My point in this third story of the series is that while Democratic politicians and leaders cannot today smartly come out and admit that we humans don’t have a free will, just like our politicians before Bill Clinton could not admit that they smoked cannabis, and our politicians before Barack Obama could not admit that they both smoked and inhaled, the time is approaching when this deeply destructive and mistaken notion of free will that the Republican Party uses to blame and punish victims will be exposed as the illusion it is will is. When that happens, the GOP, as we know it today, will be severely weakened. If this prospect sounds appealing to you, help explain to the Daily Kos community why free will is an illusion, and how we progressives can attack the GOP’s ideological foundation by getting the word out. We can prepare the way for our Democratic leaders to finally publicly acknowledge what our world’s greatest minds knew; free will is a fiction. This will lead to a much kinder and intelligent world, and a much more fair criminal justice system.
